Storing Your Fursuit
Properly storing your fursuit is Extremely important. Lots can happen to them if they are not stored properly! There are a couple ways to store them, so be sure to pick the way that is easiest on you, and best on your suit!
The best way is in a closet. Away from direct sunlight and possible other things like pets or children. Hang up the bodysuit on a wide set hanger as this can help prevent stretching, and if possible inside a suit/garmet bag. For your feet paws, they can be inside your storage/travel tote, or on top of it. Your tail can be stored along with the feet paws, or the mask. Hand paws and masks should be set on a shelf.
Brushing and fluffing up your suit out every couple of weeks can help prevent dust from building up over time. But the suit bag can help. Even with a suit bag, it may still be good to brush it out every couple of weeks if not in use!
Another way is storage totes. This way isn't bad, as long as it is done properly and your suit is 100% clean and dry before storing. Make sure your tote is big enough to hold everything for your suit without squishing anything. The best way to store is put the feet paws on the bottom, mask carefully put inside, hand paws can be inside of the mask. Then nicely roll up your bodysuit and place it in the tote (rolling it up is much better than folding, less chances of creasing!), then the tail. However, with this method, you will want to take the suit out to brush and fluff it every week or so to prevent creasing in the fur, as well as making sure it remains clean during storage. Only use this method of storage is no other space is available.
Try to not have your suit pieces thrown around a room, have a nice storage system set in place. Remember, these one one of a kind pieces of wearable art! Take care of them! Be sure to check on them every couple of weeks of no wearing no matter which method you choose. Brush and fluff up the pieces so that they stay nice.
To keep them smelling nice during storage, use dryer sheets! Put them in any pieces you'd like or inside your tote. It will keep everything smelling nice! (As long as it was clean before storage)
How do we store our items?
Masks: All masks are on a metal wire shelf, with necks open for constant air flow. They are brushed every couple of weeks to help prevent dust build up. Dryer sheets are often put into the heads to keep a fresh smell.
Bodysuits: Bodysuits are in a closet on wide set hangers, in garment bags. Brushed every couple of weeks when needed. Dryer sheets often put into garment bags with suit to keep a nice smell.
Hand paws: Our hand paws are on smaller shelves, they are stacked on one another. They are taken out and brushed every now and then to prevent creasing.
Feet Paws: We have a small wire shelf that holds most of our feetpaws, some others are in the closet.
Tails: Tails are on shelves.
Arm/Leg Sleeves: Hung up in the closet. Taken out to be brushed and fluffed every couple of weeks or when needed.
Accessories: Things like collars and bandannas are stored in drawers and small totes. Bigger outfits that go with the suits are hung up in the closet.
